Bidet - an essential element of bathroom equipment in Far Eastern countries, is now increasingly appearing in Irish bathrooms. It is a practical device that facilitates intimate hygiene and enhances the standard of the bathroom. Manufacturers offer standing and hanging bidets. Which model should you choose? How to select the right faucet? Where to install the device to ensure convenient access and comfort during use?
Standing or Hanging Bidet?
Bidet, WC bowl, washbasins, and other sanitary devices in the bathroom should maintain stylistic consistency. Therefore, when choosing a hanging sanitary bowl, you should decide to purchase a hanging bidet and vice versa. From a functional point of view, hanging models are more advantageous. Firstly, access to them and their use are more comfortable. They also make it easier to keep the bathroom clean, as they allow access to every corner of the floor. Additionally, they give a sense of more space, which is especially important in small rooms.
Hanging bidets are installed on a full wall or a special in-wall frame adapted to large loads. This solution is not only safe but also elegant, enhancing the aesthetic values of the bathroom. Unfortunately, we must account for slightly higher installation costs than for standing bidets. When buying a bidet, it's worth checking if the set includes a bidet faucet, siphon, and all necessary accessories. If not, depending on the construction of the bidet, you need to purchase the appropriate mounting elements. Ideally, the product should come with an installation guide that shows step by step how to attach the bidet to the wall or floor.
Bidet Installation
Installing a bidet requires prior water and sewage connection. Water is connected to an already mounted bidet faucet. Depending on the type of device, we can distinguish two ways of installing it.
Installation of a Hanging Bidet
When installing a hanging bidet, we use an in-wall frame attached to the wall. Frames intended for bidets have a movable crossbar with mounting screws. With it, we can conveniently regulate the height of the bidet bowl to match the height of the toilet bowl. A hanging bidet can also be attached directly to the wall. However, this requires cutting grooves in the wall for water and sewage connections, so you cannot use this solution in structural walls.
Installation of a Free-standing Bidet
A free-standing bidet should be pushed as close to the wall as possible and precisely stabilized. Then, attach the faucet to the ceramic surface and connect the water with special hoses. A good quality bidet faucet includes flexible connection hoses, an automatic plug, and a perlator. After installing the faucet, it's time to connect the siphon, appropriately selected for the type of bidet. The siphon should be placed in the lower opening of the bowl and connected to the sewage opening. Finally, with the help of mounting screws, tightly attach the stabilized bidet to the wall and floor.
Why Install a Bidet Near the Toilet Bowl?
It's worth planning the bidet installation at the bathroom design stage. This will allow for a considered location of the device and bringing in water-sewage connections. The toilet bowl and bidet should be located next to each other and at the same level. This is not just for aesthetic reasons but primarily for comfort of use. To ensure the toilet and bidet are at the same height, it's best to choose models from the same manufacturer, as they have mounting screws on one level. It's also necessary to maintain an appropriate distance from the side wall and between the devices to ensure maneuvering space from every side.
Due to the way a bidet is used - you sit on it facing or with your back to the faucet - the distance from the toilet bowl to the bidet installation should be no less than 30 cm. It's recommended that the distance from the front of this sanitary device to another fixture in the bathroom be approximately 60 cm. It's also important to maintain the correct installation height of the bidet. It is most often installed 40 cm from the floor. If the device is intended for people with impaired mobility, all parameters should be appropriately increased.
The choice of the appropriate bidet location, maintaining the required distances from walls and other bathroom fixtures, the correct installation of the bidet bowl, matching siphon, and appropriately selected faucet guarantee long-term trouble-free use of the device.
