Bathroom accessories need regular cleaning - it is especially important to clean the soap dish. Soap is used several times a day, and it's used every time you wash your hands, which means it comes into contact with many microorganisms. Additionally, it is touched with wet hands, causing it to dissolve unattractively in the soap dish. How and what should you clean soap dishes with?
Frequent hand washing is the basis of hygiene
It is no surprise that regular hand washing is the foundation of hygiene. This is taught to children at a school age and was emphasized even more when the risk of coronavirus infection arose. It is also hard to imagine visiting a public toilet without immediately going to use soap. Using good-quality soap helps eliminate skin infections and doesn't dry it out. Even though it seems obvious, it's worth remembering that this basic procedure really eliminates bacteria and protects us from many diseases.
Soap dispenser or soap dish - which to choose?
The choice really depends on the preferred type of soap: liquid soap or bar soap? Bar soaps are an ecological form, packaged in a cardboard box. This way, it doesn’t generate plastic packaging each time. However, they have their downsides - after several washes, they become soft and stop looking attractive. Water accumulates in the soap dish, which is neither hygienic nor pleasant-looking.
Liquid soap is more convenient for aesthetic reasons because even frequent hand washing does not change its appearance. To give the bathroom character, you can choose a designer dispenser that, when placed on the sink, will complement the rest of the interior.
Soap dish with a drainer
If you like using bar soap, you can minimize the problem of water accumulating in the soap dish by buying a model with a drainer. This is a convenient solution because all the water and dissolved soap drain down. There are two types of soap dishes of this kind: with a container and in the form of a basket, which has silicone handles mounted to the wall. These types of soap dishes also need to be cleaned, but they look much more attractive, and the soap placed on them does not dissolve or lose its properties.
How to care for a soap dish?
The key is regularity! Glass soap dishes need to be cleaned almost after every hand or face wash. Usually, warm water and scrubbing off what might have dried - most often on the edge of the soap dish - is sufficient. If limescale has accumulated on any side due to a large amount of water, you can treat it with a descaler, but usually, such invasive products are not necessary. The hardest to clean are black and dark soap dishes because soap residue is most visible on them.
Hair and dust can also accumulate on the soap dish - the more often it's wiped, the more hygienic it is to use the soap resting on it - especially for face washing. Liquid soap dispensers also need to be wiped because water contact causes streaks on them. And containers with streaks, standing on the sink, do not look aesthetically pleasing. It's best to use a gentle descaling agent for cleaning them because washing with just water won't remove the streaks.
Hand washing is a basic hygiene procedure that needs no convincing. Remember to clean the soap dish as well, so that it does not become a place for germ accumulation. Usually, water is sufficient for this, and for more persistent streaks, gentle chemical agents.
